A day in nearby Sherborne is a must. This small town boasts a magnificent Abbey, the ruins of an old castle and, in the summer months, the beautiful Capability Brown gardens of Sherborne Castle are open to visitors.

Sherborne Antiques Market is a treasure-trove of eclectic finds and D’Ubervilles offers delicious lunch options in amongst vintage French furniture and homeware. Enjoy tapas style dining at The Plume of Feathers or modern British dining at either The Green or nearby Clockspire restaurants.

The recently opened The Sherborne is a fabulous new cultural venue hosting art exhibitions and talks or simply enjoy lunch and the lovely gardens.

Just 6 miles from Evershot is the beautiful gem of Beaminster.  The town square boasts a fantastic array of independent shops, including a butcher, greengrocer, baker and florist alongside antiques and gift shops. Our top tip for dining out is Brassica (pictured) or enjoy cocktails in the cosy bar at The Ollerod. For a truly special occasion, plan a visit to the new Walled Garden restaurant at Parnham Park.  

Just a 25 minute drive and you’ll reach the Jurassic coast at West Bay or Burton Bradstock. You’ll be spoiled for choice for coast side dining options, from the Seaside Boarding House with its unspoilt view of the sea at the top of the cliffs to the laidback vibes of Rise in West Bay. 

Bridport town hosts fantastic antiques markets on Wednesday and Saturday mornings and wonderful independent cafes and restaurants.  Our favourite is Dorshi, hidden down a lane next to The Bull hotel. For an evening out, check out the music, film and comedy line-up at the Electric Palace. 

No trip to Dorset is complete without viewing the Cerne Abbas Giant! Just a 15 minute drive from Evershot, the stunningly pretty village of Cerne offers wonderful walks through woodland, over hills and along the river. Though the best view of the giant is actually from the viewpoint car park.  

There are no less than three pubs to choose from after your hike. Or you could continue on to Sydling St Nicholas and enjoy award-winning dining at The Greyhound.

13 miles south-west of Evershot is the county town of Dorchester. For a country market town it has far more than its far share of award-winning museums, including the Terracotta Warriors Museum, The Tutankhamun Exhibition, the family-friendly Dinosaur museum, Thomas Hardy’s Cottage and the Dorset Museum & Art Gallery.

Or take a walk amongst the sheep as you explore the Iron Age Fort, Maiden Castle. Dorchester is also home to the innovative planned community of Poundbury. You’ll also find cinemas and restaurants in Brewery Square, and supermarkets.
